Unhoused Relief Caravan Aug. 24, 2014

200+ people got fed. A carload of blankets got out. A few locals donated some cash that was used for food. Much appreciated!

The need for food on the boardwalk is getting critical. A number of prior food relief groups have had to cease operations and the population of hungry unhoused & homeless in Venice is growing. Current food relief crews like the New Life Society and the Share-a-Meal van are stretched. Venice has no shelters, few restroom facilities (the ones on the beach close at sunset), and only one local option for storing possessions – the free Safe Storage Program by the paddleball courts – which has a 100+ waiting list. And the ongoing campaign to further criminalize homelessness appears to be ramping up. So your involvement is crucial.

Our goal is to feed more people more often and we could use all the help you can offer. Because food is a human right.

Thank you to Replay Clothing for donating 200 lbs of blankets. There’s also a huge demand for sleeping bags. Message us to donate.

Please RSVP here to lend support or come to our weekly meetings every Monday night at 8pm at Beyond Baroque – 681 Venice Blvd.
